On the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti, I had the opportunity to serve as a judge for a literary writing competition.
The participants were children between 6 and 13 years of age, innocent, expressive, and full of imagination.
As someone who writes in the spiritual genre, I found myself in a difficult position. How do you judge words that come from pure hearts? How do you measure creativity that is untouched by filters, fear, or expectation?
It was not easy.
Each piece carried something unique. Some wrote about patriotism with surprising depth. Others described their favorite journeys and places with vivid detail. Many shared their happiest days with simplicity that felt deeply real.
But one entry stayed with me.
A 6-year-old boy wrote that his happiest day was when he brought his newborn sister home from the hospital. There was no effort to impress and no attempt to be perfect, only honest expression. And that is the purest form of writing.
For me, every participant was a winner.
On a day dedicated to Rabindranath Tagore, it felt even more meaningful. His legacy reminds us that literature is not just about words. It is about expression, emotion, and awakening.
